Presentation Structure

A presentation is divided into five parts.

As you can see, some parts of the presentation have additional sub-parts.  Please note that these sub-parts may be mixed around according to the preference of a presenter.  Additionally, some presenters may opt to include additional sub-parts or omit certain parts.

-----Introduction-----

Greeting

The greeting is basically the first words you say to the audience.  Make sure you open strong and make the appropriate greeting based on (1) time of day, (2) participants, (3) and other items you may include to greet your audience.

ex.)  Good morning ladies and gentlemen, it is nice to see all of you here today.

Name and Position

Mention to the audience your name and your position.  You should also include your company name if you are presenting to members of your audience that do not work in your company.  Please note that if you are presenting to members of your own team or people that definitely know you, some presenters may omit this section.

ex.)  My name is John Smith and I am the regional director for XYZ corporation.

Subject/Title of the Presentation

Here you want to tell your audience the subject and/or title of your presentation.

ex.)  The title of my presentation is, "How to Improve Your Presentation Skills."

Purpose of the Presentation

In this section, you may want to say a few sentences as to the purpose of your presentation.

ex.)  The purpose of my presentation is to guide you through the presentation process and help you deliver a better presentation.

Length of Presentation

It may be a good idea to let your audience know how much of their time you will take to deliver the presentation.  Please note that if you say ten minutes, then you should finish within ten minutes.  If you go over your stated time your audience may start to look at the time and become restless, not paying their full attention to your presentation.

ex.)  This presentation will take approximately 15 minutes.

How You Will Handle Questions

Some presenters don't mind questions throughout the presentation, some presenters want the audience to ask at the end of the presentation.  You can tell your audience how you will handle questions in this part.

ex.)  I will be happy to answer all your questions at the end of my presentation.
